The tower is the oldest building in the village. It was probably part of the fortified system of protection for the castle. Originally used for defence purposes it was transformed into a civic tower with a bell and clock. In red brick, with openings on each floor it draws the eye upwards and has become the symbol of the people of the people of Marene.
